One of the main criticisms I have of a lot of the digitally-produced webcomics is that they tend to rely too heavily on copy & paste. Now, let me be clear: I understand very well how long it takes to make a comic, and if you're trying to produce two or three (or five) a week, then yes, anything you can do to speed up the process is handy. But it does tend to make for very boring layouts a lot of the time, and a feeling of static characters.
Sometimes, though, the repeated panel serves a particular artistic purpose. Often the idea is to get the viewer to focus on the subtle changes from panel to panel. Page 8 of Cal's story is just such a page. I've got a panel repeating three times, but am making minor changes each time. I chose to do it this way because I want this page to be all about body language.
And this is one of those times where I really question my sanity in doing this on paper instead of on the computer. This would be a whole helluva lot faster to copy and paste, and then make the minor adjustments I want to make in layers. Perhaps at some point in the future I will learn to like making comics on the computer, and a page that should be a breeze won't involve quite this much toil.
