The first panel on this page was tricky. At the time of drawing it I didn't know what order the chapters were going to be in, but I wanted the sequence of the characters to match the sequence of the chapters. Changing the text in the word balloon would be easy enough, but what about the drawing itself? My solution was to draw each character separately on a piece of vellum, so I could rearrange them at will. (The vellum is transluscent, making it easier to place the figures as I worked.) Here's how that panel looks in real life:
