Valley of the Silk Sky queer YA SFF webcomic

Page 39 of Valley of the Silk Sky features PERKY ENTHUSIASM and BLOOD. Read all about it here:

For new folks who may have wandered in after reading my Fusion comic on trans representation in media, Valley of the Silk Sky is my queer YA science fiction webcomic that features an all-nonbinary cast and a few trans characters. I post the individual VoSS pages here on Studio NDR (my ancient, creaky website devoted to my art), but I built a whole other website to host All Things Valley of the Silk Sky.

So you’d want to head over there if you’re a nerd for world-building, or want to read up on the cast, or find out more about other VoSS stories in other publications.

As far as where to read the pages, as I said you can read them here on Studio NDR, but this site build is, as I said, old and not very mobile-friendly. If you prefer to read on a tablet or phone, both the Voss tumblr website and the Tapastic page are mobile-friendly. Tapastic is specifically designed for webcomic publishing, so it has several nifty features for your reading pleasure, like place-holding and new page alerts.

Politically InQueerect cameo in Transposes

Speaking of Tapastic, I started adding some Politically InQueerect cameos to the PiQue archive there. The most recent post is from Transposes, where Archer, Todd, and Dee show up as faces in a crowd. See the page in question here, and read the “more” stuff at the bottom for further trivia.

Finally, to any new readers, you can buy Transposes and Politically InQueerect comics from my publisher, Northwest Press. And you can read a 16-page standalone Valley of the Silk Sky story in the Beyond Anthology. Neat!

Anyway, see you next Wednesday for the latest VoSS installment!

Cheers,

Dylan

So anyway, that announcement. (If you’re wondering what happened to this week’s Valley of the Silk Sky page, I posted it yesterday, so see previous post for deets.)

I made this comic for Fusion about trans representation in media, and it is now live and awaiting your eyeballs!

Also, random surprise convention added this weekend, November 7-8: Rocky Mountain Con. I’m sharing a table with a friend, so I guess look for me in the artist alley with all my queer comics!

Cheers,

Dylan

Surprise Tuesday update! Because reasons. Valley of the Silk Sky page 38 is here, but be forewarned – it does contain scenes of graphic violence against glasses. Witness the carnage here:

With any luck I will have fun and interesting announcements for tomorrow, so check back then!

VoSS page 37 is up! BEHOLD, THE MIGHTY HUNT– er …

What next for our beleaguered protags? Tune in next week and so on and so forth.

[This is me trying not to dish out spoilers for my own comic, doncha know.]

I foresee other exciting comix announcements imminently, but for the time being this here is what I got.

And so,

I guess I can’t really say anything else about it without spoilerizing, so let us move on to the next thing:

Steven Universe fan art Peridot and pet Centipeetle

A wee bit of Steven Universe fan art! Like all queer nerds, it seems, I am digging this show, and Peridot is easily my favorite of the gems. (It is not lost on me that she shares some particular personality traits with my own Archer Hewitt of Politically InQueerect fame.)

I guess I just have a thing for cantankerous curmudgeons. As character archetypes go, anyway.

The drawing up for your viewing pleasure on Studio NDR and Tumblr.

Meanwhile, I gotta get back to work on Secret Project X, which I will hopefully be able to reveal to you in short order. Stay chooned.

Cheers,

Dylan

Things are officially at Confounding Predicament Level with this update. Observe:

Tune in next week, I guess, to find out if this is the end!

MEANWHILE, I got my Beyond comps this week and they are both boofoo and delicious.

Beyond Anthology is delicious queer comics candy

If you backed the Kickstarter, your copy should be in the mail if it’s not in your eager mitts already. If you missed the Kickstarter, you can now preorder the hardcopy of the book, or you can buy the PDF right this very now.

How can you accomplish these tasks, you ask? Why, simply hit up the shiny new Beyond Press website and do the thing.

EXCITE. THRILL.

(Also, my story in Beyond will pretty quickly tell you whether or not page 36 of the Long Run is The Actual End [hint: probably not].)

On the Beyond Anthology front, there’s a shiny new website from which you can now get digital copies of the book, or pre-order the softcover if you missed out on the Kickstarter.

Reviews are starting to trickle in: here’s one from Women Write About Comics, and another from Autostraddle.

Ya know, juuuuust in case you were on the fence about picking up the book. ;)

My own contributor copies are en route to me. Once they’re here, expect goofy-faced selfies. Yuss indeed.

Valley of the Silk Sky queer YA science fiction webcomic

As the thumbnail image might suggest, there are some CURIOUS GOINGS ON with this week’s Valley of the Silk Sky page. Find out the deets here:

And yes, I will indeed be at the Alternative Press Expo this weekend, Oct. 3-4, in San Jose, CA. You can find me at the Northwest Press booth, 408/309.

I have TWO new comics out since last I appeared at APE, so definitely come check ’em out.

Speaking of new comics, word on the street is that hard copies of the Beyond Anthology are shipping out this week, so if you backed the Kickstarter you should be seeing your copy shortly. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, this means sales will open to the general public very, very soon!

VoSS is back, and Chapter 4 opens with a dose of What Do? Read it here:

And then tune in next week to find out What Did.

Speaking of VoSS, it looks like Beyond printed books have landed with the editors, and will be winging their way out to Kickstarter backers very shortly. Once all Kickstarter orders have been filled, the book will be made available for sale to the general public. So if you missed the Kickstarter, don’t fret! You’ll be able to snag a copy soon.

Big thanks to everyone who came to SPX and bought books, and who attended the panel! It went really well, I had a great time, and sincerely hope I can be back next year.

Next up on the con schedule is the Alternative Press Expo in San Jose, CA. I’ll be tabling with Northwest Press once again, so if you’re going to be at APE look for me there. We’ll have a double endcap at 408/309.

Cheers,

Dylan

SPX draws nigh

Small Press Expo 2015

Just a couple of weeks out from the Small Press Expo! I’ll be sharing a table with Rob Kirby – you can find us at H12 – and we’ll have a bounty of queer comics for ya.

I’ll also be moderating a panel called Queer and Here to Make Comics on Saturday the 19th at 6:00 PM in the White Oak Room. Here’s the description:

The indie comix scene is one of the best places to find stories by queer creators and comix for queer readers so let’s celebrate queer representation in comix with Anna Archie Bongiovanni (Autostraddle Saturday Morning Comics), Yao Xiao (Autostraddle Baopu Comics), Hazel Newlevant (If This Be Sin), and Kevin Jay Stanton (Burl and Fur) and discuss what it means to them. Moderated by Dylan Edwards.

So yeah! If you’re going to be at SPX this year, add that to your list of stuff to do!

Meanwhile, as I await edits on Other Comics Project, I’m working away on chapter 4 of Valley of the Silk Sky. Thirteen pages penciled, six pages inked, one page finished with a second 80% of the way done. Not making any specific announcements yet as to when chapter 4 will start running, since I don’t know how long Other Comics Project is going to take, but rest assured things are in process.

In the meantime, I’ll once again be running a series of world-building posts in between chapters, so head over to the Valley of the Silk Sky website if you wanna check those out.

And with that, I’m off to wrap up that 20% of page the second.

Cheers,

Dylan
