An Anthology of Anthology Announcements

An Anthology of Anthology Announcements published on
We're Still Here all-transgender comics anthology

I’m excited to announce that We’re Still Here, the all-trans comic anthology in which I have a short story, has been nominated for a Lambda Literary Award! If you haven’t already snagged a copy of this book, you can do so from Stacked Deck Press.

I realize I’m biased and all, but this really is an excellent collection of comics offering a multitude of perspectives of the trans experience.

Monster Journey all-trans masculine anthology

I also just got my comps of the Monster Journey anthology, featuring monster-themed stories by trans masc creators. This is not yet generally available, but I will have a very (VERY) small number available for sale at DiNK in April. I have a brand new Valley of the Silk Sky short story in here, of which $1+ Patrons have gotten some work-in-progress peeks. Soon you’ll be able to read the whole darn thing!

Meanwhile, I just got the rights back to my short story, Ace Pilot, that was originally published in the Dark Horse anthology Secret Loves of Geeks. So my next webcomic serialization will be that story. Starting Monday, March 11, $1+ Patrons will get early access to the comic, and it’ll go up for the general public on Thursdays.

Finally, I’m still working on coloring my Valley of the Silk Sky short story, “Medicine; Run,” that was originally published in the Beyond Anthology. $1+ Patrons have been getting sneak peeks at that work in progress as well, natch. I’m about 75% done, so still on track to release it as a minicomic in time for DiNK. I’ll also be running it as a webcomic once Ace Pilot wraps up.

In other words, lots of comics coming your way!

books by Dylan EdwardsIt is time once again for the Small Press Expo to commence! This weekend, September 17-18, 2016, you will find me at the MARRIOTT NORTH BETHESDA HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTER. [Dunt dunt dunn]

I’ll be ensconced at the Northwest Press table D2.

Also, as you may recall, the Beyond Anthology is nominated for an Ignatz Award, so like vote for it and stuff.

AND, there will be a bunch of us Beyondees scattered about the show, should you wish to seek out autographs. Use this handy treasure map to seek out your fortune:

I personally am sold out of Beyonds, but will be bringing a display copy if you want to flip through. I know Reed Black will have a handful of copies to sell, so hit his table up early if you wanna snag one.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Cheers,

Dylan

Transgender representation in media comic

Exciting news! That comic I did for Fusion last year, “How I told My Grandma I’m Transgender,” has won the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association Award for Excellence in Transgender Coverage!

HOW. COOL. IS. THAT.

(Answer: it’s pretty darn cool.)

If you’d like to have a copy of this comic in print format, remember you can buy the minicomic version from my Gumroad store.

So, like, I’ve been in a few award-winning anthologies, but this is my first solo award for my comics work. So I am, as of now, officially an Award Winning Cartoonist™.

SPEAKING OF AWARD-WINNING ANTHOLOGIES. Ahem.

Beyond Anthology queer science fiction and fantasy comics

The Beyond Anthology, which has already won a Lambda Literary Award and been named to the Tiptree Honor List, is now nominated for an Ignatz Award for Outstanding Anthology or Collection.

So! Even more coolness.

I do indeed have plans to be at SPX with Northwest Press (table D2). So if you’re going to be there, come to the booth for some queer comics goodness, and vote Beyond Anthology for Outstanding Anthology or Collection!

Cheers,

Dylan

Beyond Anthology queer science fiction and fantasy comics

Just got word yesterday that the Beyond Anthology is a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Best LGBT Anthology! Great news to hear, and big congrats to the editors, Sfé R. Monster and Taneka Stotts, as well as all the other contributors, for making such an excellent book.

The print book is sold out of the online store, so if you’ve been meaning to grab it, be aware! (Obviously the digital edition is still available.) Some shops will still have copies in stock, and I’ll be selling Beyond at my next couple of conventions: I definitely expect to have books for Anomaly Con and Emerald City.

After that, no guarantees. I don’t have any information at this time on a reprint, though I believe it’s part of the plan.

Valley of the Silk Sky The Long Run Part One

As for Valley of the Silk Sky, don’t forget you can now buy a hi-res PDF of Part One of The Long Run. Read offline! Zoom in on the art and look at all the little bitty details! Help support indie artists with dollars! EXCITEMENT. (No word yet on the ComiXology edition, though I wouldn’t expect to hear anything for another couple-few weeks.)

Yes, yes, fine, you say, but WHAT OF PART TWO. Well, I’m about halfway through penciling Chapter 6, so it’s humming along. Still looking to start running sometime in April. I’m posting work-in-progress peeks and other art to my Patreon for $1+ backers, so if you wanna keep up with the goings on, that’s the place to be. Again, your dollars help support indie artists, etc.

Last bit of news, I totes forgot to post a link to this Unicorn Booty article/interview about Valley of the Silk Sky. A little something else to read while you wait!

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky queer YA SFF webcomic

Page 39 of Valley of the Silk Sky features PERKY ENTHUSIASM and BLOOD. Read all about it here:

For new folks who may have wandered in after reading my Fusion comic on trans representation in media, Valley of the Silk Sky is my queer YA science fiction webcomic that features an all-nonbinary cast and a few trans characters. I post the individual VoSS pages here on Studio NDR (my ancient, creaky website devoted to my art), but I built a whole other website to host All Things Valley of the Silk Sky.

So you’d want to head over there if you’re a nerd for world-building, or want to read up on the cast, or find out more about other VoSS stories in other publications.

As far as where to read the pages, as I said you can read them here on Studio NDR, but this site build is, as I said, old and not very mobile-friendly. If you prefer to read on a tablet or phone, both the Voss tumblr website and the Tapastic page are mobile-friendly. Tapastic is specifically designed for webcomic publishing, so it has several nifty features for your reading pleasure, like place-holding and new page alerts.

Politically InQueerect cameo in Transposes

Speaking of Tapastic, I started adding some Politically InQueerect cameos to the PiQue archive there. The most recent post is from Transposes, where Archer, Todd, and Dee show up as faces in a crowd. See the page in question here, and read the “more” stuff at the bottom for further trivia.

Finally, to any new readers, you can buy Transposes and Politically InQueerect comics from my publisher, Northwest Press. And you can read a 16-page standalone Valley of the Silk Sky story in the Beyond Anthology. Neat!

Anyway, see you next Wednesday for the latest VoSS installment!

Cheers,

Dylan

Things are officially at Confounding Predicament Level with this update. Observe:

Tune in next week, I guess, to find out if this is the end!

MEANWHILE, I got my Beyond comps this week and they are both boofoo and delicious.

Beyond Anthology is delicious queer comics candy

If you backed the Kickstarter, your copy should be in the mail if it’s not in your eager mitts already. If you missed the Kickstarter, you can now preorder the hardcopy of the book, or you can buy the PDF right this very now.

How can you accomplish these tasks, you ask? Why, simply hit up the shiny new Beyond Press website and do the thing.

EXCITE. THRILL.

(Also, my story in Beyond will pretty quickly tell you whether or not page 36 of the Long Run is The Actual End [hint: probably not].)

Cheers,

Dylan

Page 34 of Valley of the Silk Sky is here, and it is filled with sharp, pointy teeth:

On the Beyond Anthology front, there’s a shiny new website from which you can now get digital copies of the book, or pre-order the softcover if you missed out on the Kickstarter.

Reviews are starting to trickle in: here’s one from Women Write About Comics, and another from Autostraddle.

Ya know, juuuuust in case you were on the fence about picking up the book. ;)

My own contributor copies are en route to me. Once they’re here, expect goofy-faced selfies. Yuss indeed.

Cheers,

Dylan

Now, as to this Beyond Anthology Kickstarter, well, it is live RIGHT NOW. And I have a 16-page Valley of the Silk Sky story in there, exclusive to the book.

Featuring 18 stories by 26 contributors, Beyond is a 250+ page, black and white, queer comic anthology, full of swashbuckling space pirates, dragon slayers, death-defying astronauts, and monster royalty. Each story celebrates and showcases unquestionably queer characters as they explore the galaxy, mix magic, have renegade adventures, and save the day!

Valley of the Silk Sky Chadsen

VoSS page 8 is here for your viewing pleasure, and features a THRILLING, ACTION-PACKED economic exchange! Where can you read it? Why, here:

Just a wee little reminder that the cultures of the Valley have no specific concept of gender, so everyone’s nonbinary by default, hence the “xe/xer” pronouns.

More VoSS news! The Beyond Anthology Kickstarter is drawing nigh! In just under two weeks you will be able to throw your dollars at this fine tome of queer science fiction and fantasy comics. More details here.

As you may recall, I have a 16-page VoSS story, exclusive to the anthology, featured in Beyond. So prepare yourselves for March 16, yeah?

Final bit of VoSS news: I finished the art for chapter two, which means a couple things: first of all, that gives me 12 weeks of material in the queue (10 pages of comics and two rounds of info posts between chapters). This ALSO means I will almost certainly have the chapter 1 & 2 mini available at ECCC.

Still working on the cover art, and I have to lay everything out and all that jazz, but the hard part is mostly done. So. VoSS MINI IMMINENT.

Cheers,

Dylan
