PiQue Pieces: Old Ghosts cover art
The full cover painting for the Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts and Other Stories comic book.
This piece was inspired by common tropes in gothic romance novel cover art: the spooky house, the full moon, a single light on in one window, the sinister figure lurking in the background, and the alarmed protagonist attempting to flee.
PiQue Pieces: Sexy Todd shills for Old Ghosts
Yeah, yeah. It’s what it looks like: Todd going shirtless to pander to thirsty comic book nerds who like hairy dudes. To be fair, Todd gets shirtless for several pages in Old Ghosts, so it’s not false advertising.
The version of this drawing that’s reprinted in the book is the one with the strategically-placed comic, so here, have the unaltered artwork.
PiQue Pieces: Punk Archer AU sketch
This drawing is the result of a comment thread on Tapastic, speculating on what Archer might have been like if he’d gotten heavily into punk.
(I ended up removing all my comics from Tapastic after they changed their Terms of Service in a way that was unacceptable to me.)
PiQue Pieces: Transposes cameo
Todd and Archer make a cameo appearance in the first page of Blake’s chapter from Transposes.
The final printed version of this page is in grayscale. This is what the page looks like in full color (shaded with a mix of cool gray Prismacolor marker and ink wash).
PiQue Pieces: Clean
This was originally published in Rocksalt, an indie comics newspaper in Austin, Texas. Reprinted in Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts and Other Stories.
The shading here is a mix of Prismacolor marker and ink wash (the sunbeam is a digital add-on). The printed version was true grayscale, but the color incarnation looks pretty neat as-is.
PiQue Pieces: Flight
This was originally published in the 2010 STAPLE! Independent Media Expo program guide/anthology. The original is grayscale, digital color added later.
PiQue Pieces: PiQue Stiques
A full color, full-sized comics page takes me around 15-20 hours to create, just in case you were curious.
PiQue Pieces: The Outfield 59
The characters from Politically InQueerect made several cameos in The Outfield over the years. These are all reprinted in The Outfield collection.
PiQue Pieces: The Outfield 54
The characters from Politically InQueerect made several cameos in The Outfield over the years. These are all reprinted in The Outfield collection.
Credit where it’s due: former NBA star Tim Hardaway took the backlash to heart, worked to educate himself on LGBTQ issues, and went on to become a major supporter of queer rights.
