Politically InQueerect Old Ghosts Gran

Gran has finally met the person of her dreams – someone who actually WANTS to hear her gruesome tales of grisly ghosts. Why on earth would Archer and Clara NOT be into this? What is wrong with them, anyway? Read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR.

Thanks to everyone who came by the Northwest Press booth and bought books! We had a great show and will definitely be back. Next stop is TCAF in Toronto, which is May 10-11, 2014.

Cheers,

Dylan

Page 7 of PiQue: Old Ghosts is up! Read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR. Gran, of course, didn’t REALLY want to talk about ghosts, but if Todd INSISTS ….

In further Old Ghosts news, the pencils are DONE. Oh my yes. I still have 10-ish pages to ink and 27-ish pages to color, but the uphill part of the process is finished, which is a huge relief to me. I’ve only been working on this story since 2003. (Yep. Two-thousand-effing-three.)

So! Emerald City Comic Con. I will be there, at the Northwest Press booth (#912). Come get your copies of Transposes and/or QU33R signed. Purchase original art from either of these. Eyeball the printouts I made of Old Ghosts pages in their sort-of current state, if you want to peep the story faster than a page a week. All of these things and more are to be had in Seattle this weekend, March 28-30, 2014. See you there!

Cheers,

Dylan

Page 6 of Old Ghosts is up! Read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR. Hmmmm. What, indeed, could be amiss about that room? Oh, well. I guess we’ll never know.

I have but four pages remaining to pencil on this story, and then that phase of the art will be DONE. Since the pencils are the most labor-intensive part of the process, this is good news for actually getting this thing finished at long last. I’m almost done inking page 25 (yeesh, but that one’s taking a long time), and need to get back to coloring once I wrap up the pencils. There are still three finished pages in the can, so I’m not too worried about keeping these here updates regular.

In other news, a couple of Seattle-related things going on. First of all, I’m in an art show at the Gay City Health Project (517 E Pike St, Seattle, WA 98122). It’s going on now, and will be up through April 7, so get down there to check out some original comic art from myself and several others.

Also, I will be at Emerald City Comic Con (March 28-30), most likely at the Northwest Press booth. Though I’m on the wait list for my own Artist Alley table, so if one becomes available I’ll have my own spot. Anyway, start at Northwest Press, and if I’m not there they’ll know where I am.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Archer

It’s Wednesday, and that means the new page of Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts is live! At long last, we arrive at our destination, and we learn that in Archer’s case the sarcasm is congenital. You can read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR.

If you need to get caught up, or just want to refresh your memory, the archive of all pages posted to date is here.

Halvanylila Razi grooming teaserIn other exciting comix news, I’ve done a 1-page backup story for Jon Macy’s upcoming Fearful Hunter collected volume. In addition to his own story of queer druid/werewolf luv, he asked several of his artist pals to do short pieces on the subject of queer monster romance. I decided to do a page featuring two of my characters from my Beyond story, Halvanylila and Razi. I babble about it a bit further in my Tumblr post on the subject, so wander over there if you’re dying for more details.

I shall include a teaser here, but obviously for the full page you’ll have to pick up the Fearful Hunter tome when it comes out. Not sure what the release date is, but I’ll let you know when I know.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Old Ghosts

Page 4 of Old Ghosts is now posted for your viewing pleasure, both here on Studio NDR, and over here on Tapastic.

The summary for today’s page is best encapsulated in a paraphrasing of a certain Smith’s song: Some flights are better than others, some flights are better than others, some flights are better for other churls’ mothers.

Need to get caught up? The archive for all the pages posted to date is here.

In other news, I’m going to be posting more Beyond teasers over on my tumblr as work on that story gears up. Here’s the new one I put up yesterday. Eventually I’ll create a section on Studio NDR for all this concept art, but for the time being it’s just easier to post it on Tumblr. So. Follow along there if you don’t want to have to wait.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Archer

New page is up! You can read it here on Tapastic, or here on Studio NDR. In this episode, we begin to get the impression that Archer might possibly need to learn some meditation skills. (That’ll totally happen, yeah.)

I’ve got up through page 29 penciled. I have a convention this weekend, so further penciling progress will be slow, but I hope to get back to it after the show’s over.

Cheers,

Dylan

Rocksalt Magazine Logo

First up, it may interest you to learn that the latest issue of Rocksalt is out, and I have a couple of cartoons in it. As ever, lots of great and weird cartoonery is to be had within, and if you live in Austin you can probably snag a print copy somewhere around town at one of the free drops.

Denver Drink and Draw

Meanwhile, Comix Brew, the alt comics newspaper for Denver Drink & Draw‘s cadre of crazy cartoonists has hit its Kickstarter funding goal. There’s still a week left to contribute, so if you want to snag a bitchin’ pint glass or some original art, go throw some dollars our way.

What else can I tell ya. Still penciling away on Old Ghosts. 28 pages down, hoping to knock out page 29 today. Inks in progress on page 24. I’m so excited to be finishing this story after all these years I can’t even tell ya. Anyway, page 3 goes up on Wednesday, so check back then.

Cheers,

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Todd exasperated

Old Ghosts page 2 is up, on Tapastic and here on Studio NDR.

Who WOULDN’T want to sit next to Archer on a plane for seven hours?

Trivia for this page: my grandfather, who smoked for 40 years, gave up the habit only under duress. He would never hesitate to tell you how “those doctors” had “made” him quit smoking, as though the two heart attacks had nothing to do with it. (He lived to be 96.) So I borrowed a bit of that bluster for Archer’s own “you made me quit” narrative.

Need to get caught up? Here’s the archive of all pages posted to date.

Tune in next week for more UNSTOPPABLE EXCITEMENT.

Dylan

Politically InQueerect Archer

Page 1 of the brand new PiQue story “Old Ghosts” is now up on Tapastic, and here at home. Todd, Archer, and Archer’s mother Clara embark on a journey to Shrewsbury, England, to assist Archer’s grandmother in moving to a newer, smaller house. In this case, “newer” simply means “less than 500 years old.” Todd is game. Clara is resigned. Archer … might be about to complain a bit? Nah.

There’s only the one page at the moment, but ultimately this is where you’ll go to read the story in progress. At 36 pages, published one page a week, I’m sure there’ll come a time when you’ll want to review what has come before.

As of right now I have 8 pages completely finished, so that’s two months of updates in the can.

Also of possible interest to you queer comics readers: my publisher, Northwest Press, is having a 20% Off sale right this very now. A great chance to stock up on some excellent queer graphic novels, no?

Politically InQueerect Archer

More PiQue on Tapastic! In which Archer’s mother interrupts bidness for business.

This is the second ever PiQue strip, from back when it was still called Young Republicans in Love. Back before I decided Todd & Archer weren’t so young after all, and also maybe I wanted to write about people besides just Republicans.

I’m not a huge fan of this particular comic, to be honest, but Archer’s mom is a principal character in the big story arc that starts NEXT WEEK (!), so I figured you should meet her first. Even if that first meeting is a wee bit awkward.

Politically InQueerect Old Ghosts teaser

SPEAKING OF WHICH. I have five pages completely finished, with a sixth in the works. I’m going to get as many more pages done as I can in the next week, and then I’ll switch back to penciling for a bit. So my expectation is to go into next Wednesday’s debut with at least 2 months of buffer in the can.

Work on Beyond is going to ramp up real soon here. With any luck I’ll have enough of PiQue: Old Ghosts done to keep it going uninterrupted while I switch over to working on Beyond. I’m far enough ahead on pencils and inks that I don’t feel like it should be a problem.

Anyway, that’s what’s what. Tune in next week for the start of Politically InQueerect: Old Ghosts!

Cheers,

Dylan
