The latest installment features some curious goings on, curious indeed:

“The Swamp” is the colloquial name for Eradu Province, the one directly beneath Muru. Many areas in Eradu are partially submerged, and sewage runoff from the upper provinces often collects there, sometimes fermenting and creating pockets of explosive gas. Fun!

Needless to say, it’s not particularly habitable, and being thrown down a hole to get there does nothing to enhance the experience.

Also, let this be your periodic reminder that eVeRyOnE in this world takes gender-neutral pronouns.

In other VoSS news, I’ve been penciling away on Chapter 4, and am just over halfway through. I’d ideally like to finish penciling by the end of the month, but it may not happen because of Other Projects and Things. Point is, I’m working on it, but the going is slow on account of needing to actually make money?

I guess this is as good a time as any to remind folks that I have a Patreon, and by pledging to it you can help cut down on the amount of Other Projects and Things I have to take on. Just sayin’!

Cheers,

Dylan

VoSS page 27 features lots of people being surprised about various things. What are they surprised about? Find out here:

So THAT’S probably fine, right? I’m sure everything will be fine.

And yes, more coverage of the SDCC Writing Transgender Characters panel trickles in, this time with an article on Comic Book Resources. Props for not going with a Caitlyn Jenner headline (srsly, trans people existed before Cait, cis media).

Finally, my publisher, Northwest Press, is having a summer sale! Observe these deets:

Valley of the Silk Sky page 26 has arrived, and it features curious goings on. Read:

Did I mention Chapter 1 was going to be on the test? Well, Chapter 1 is on the test. BUT, I guess if you need to, you can refresh your memory of how repellents work by rereading page 10.

Also, if you’re curious to know more of the Writing Transgender Characters panel that happened at SDCC a couple of weeks ago, I did a round-up post on Tumblr with some additional commentary to fill out some details relevant to the posted article.

New page of Valley of the Silk Sky is up for your reading pleasure:

Since you were paying close attention to the minor background minutiae on page 8, and were no doubt taking notes, you already have some clue as to who Cobb might be.

Gosh, I wonder what other details from chapter 1 are about to become relevant.

Also, assuming I have fended off the con crud by then, I will be part of the lineup this Saturday, July 18, at Mutiny Information Cafe in Denver. A bunch of us will be reading from our comics, selling our books, and then checking out the band that’s playing after. Should be a fun time!

SDCC2015 was also a fun time for sure. The Writing Trans Characters panel went really well, and it was great to see a bunch of folks I really only see this one time of the year. Thanks to everyone who came by and bought books, or just stopped to chat. I unfortunately took home with me a light cold, so I’m going to go back to bed, I think.

Cheers,

Dylan

Gosh, who are these folks, I wonder?

Speaking of wondering things, if you’re wondering where to find me at SDCC, here’s the breakdown:

lgbtqia comics by Dylan Edwards at SDCC2015

My books will be available for sale at the Northwest Press table in the Prism Comics booth (#2144). There will also be a bajillionty other amazing queer comics for sale in that booth, so obviously you will want to go there immediately upon arrival. I’ll be hanging around the booth here and there, should you desire to get yer stuff signed.

I will be on a panel with several other trans artists on Thursday, July 9 at 5:00 PM in room 28DE. Writing Transgender Characters it’s called. Can you afford to miss this? I put it to you that you cannot.

EXCITEMENT. THRILLS.

Valley of the Silk Sky page 23 finds Razi in a spot of bother. Read all about it here:

Meanwhile, San Diego Comic Con is even more nigh than it was last week when I proclaimed it to be nigh. And next week it shall be the nighest of all. You will mostly be able to find me at the Northwest Press table in the Prism Comics megabooth (#2144, or just look for the gayness).

Also. ALSO! You should absolutely, definitely come to the panel I’ll be on, Writing Transgender Characters, on Thursday July 9, 5:00 PM, in room 28DE.

What else. I just wrapped up a short piece for an anthology that I believe will be coming out this fall, or possibly winter. More deets on that as I have them.

Now it’s back to working on VoSS. The thumbnails of Chapter 4 are all set, so it is time to pencil, gosh darnit.

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run page 22 is up! THIS WAY FOR READ:

I suppose I ought confess: the rest of the chapter is just Razi opening various drawers and cabinets and proclaiming the contents. FUN!

Also fun: Denver Zine Fest is this weekend! It’s sponsored by the Denver Zine Library, and there will be many exciting activities. I’m signed up to be part of the readings on Friday, June 26, and then I’ll be at the Fest itself on Saturday the 27th. I’ll have all of my books there, plus a handful of Northwest Press titles, so come on down won’t you.

And yes, San Diego Comic Con is nigh! Very, very nigh. Intimidatingly nigh.

I will once again be ensconced at the Northwest Press table, to be found in the Prism Comics booth (#2144). I’m also going to be on a Writing Trans Characters panel that promises to be really awesome. Once SDCC publishes the official programming schedule I’ll let you know the date/time.

Valley of the Silk Sky page 21 is here, and really, everything’s probably fine. Nothing to worry about. Not even one single thing. See for yourself:

But yes, Queer Comics Expo! It is this very weekend in San Francisco! I am given to understand there will be QUEER COMICS.

It’s at the Cartoon Art Museum, June 20-21, and in addition to several queertoonists and publishers of queer comics, there’ll also be a ton of awesome programming. I’m on three panels: Non-Monosexual Characters in Comics, Panel Transitions: Trans Representation in Comics, and Teaching Queer: LGBTQ Comics in the Classroom.

So! If you’re in SF and you dig queer comics, you should head on over to this thing!

Cheers,

Dylan

Hmm, what have we here? A destination of sorts? Clap your eyes upon the latest Valley of the Silk Sky page at one of these fine locations:

So! What else. I’ve done the first draft on the thumbnails for chapter 4. I’m letting it sit for a bit so I can go back to it with fresh eyes before moving on to pencils.

In the meanwhiles, I’ll be working on a short piece for an upcoming anthology, about which more later. (I’m only being coy about it because I don’t know what info has been officially released, so I guess I’ll start talking about it more when I know more. But I’ll tell you this: it’s all about … QUEER COMICS.)

Oh, and also! I don’t have the official date/time yet, but I’ll be doing a panel at SDCC2015 on Writing Trans Characters. So if you have plans to be at Comic Con International this year, keep an eyeball out for that. I’ll post the date/time once I get the final schedule.

Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run page 19 is here:

Be on the alert for giant bioluminescent mushrooms, giant monotreme spider things, giant other stuff, carnivorous this and that. You know, the usual.

In further VoSS news, I’ve finished thumbnailing chapter 4, which means it’s very close to ready to draw. I’m giving it a few days to percolate before I dive in. But chapter 3 will keep us covered for awhile yet.

I also am working on an anthology piece that’s due at the end of July, so comics are just all over the place.

Oh, and if you missed it, there’s a public post up on my Patreon with a bit of world-building info about how Harcos bath time goes down. Features a rather exciting illustration as well.

Anyhow. See you next week for the continuance of Ch. 3!

Cheers,

Dylan
