queer and trans comics by Dylan Edwards

DiNK Denver is coming up this weekend (April 8-9, 2017), and I will be there with a pile o’ comics for sale! I’m one of the local artists profiled in this here Westword article.

I will also be on a panel on Sunday April 9 at 2:15 – Cultural Influences of the LGBTQ Community on Indie Art

And. AND. Valley of the Silk Sky is nominated for a DiNKy Award for Best Webcomic!

If you’ll be in Denver this weekend, please come to the show and support indie creators!

EVEN MORE EXCITEMENT:

Back in November I was interviewed by American View magazine, a publication of the U.S. Embassy in Japan which seeks to bring American culture to a Japanese audience. Well, that interview is now live! It’s available in both English and Japanese (there’s a button at the top right to switch languages), so you have no excuse not to read it.

Finally, I’m wrapping up a comic I’ve been working on for an upcoming anthology. I got really sick this past month and there was other family stuff going on, so my productivity has been very slow of late. I’m gradually getting back on track, though, so hopefully I’ll have some new stuff to show off soon.

As per usual, my $1+ Patreons are getting sneak peeks at works in progress, as well as behind-the-scenes fun. A mere one dollar a month snags you these fine perks, and helps keep me creating new stuff. Pitch in if you can!

Cheers,

Dylan

IN OTHER NEWS:

I’m in the process of putting together QAT Person #2, which collects more of my autobio comics into minicomic form. You can still buy QAT Person #1 from me online, or come find me at a convention.

My plan is to have QAT Person #2 ready for Emerald City Comic Con in March.

I’ll be ensconced at the Northwest Press table D2.

Also, as you may recall, the Beyond Anthology is nominated for an Ignatz Award, so like vote for it and stuff.

AND, there will be a bunch of us Beyondees scattered about the show, should you wish to seek out autographs. Use this handy treasure map to seek out your fortune:

I personally am sold out of Beyonds, but will be bringing a display copy if you want to flip through. I know Reed Black will have a handful of copies to sell, so hit his table up early if you wanna snag one.

Hope to see you this weekend!

FlameCon 2 queer comics convention

This very weekend, August 20-21, you can find me at FlameCon in Brooklyn, NY! I’m super excited about this queer comics convention. If you, also, are excited about queer comics and are in NY, come to the thing.

I’ll be at table 17 with Eric Arroyo and Kou Chen, and will also be participating in the Queercopia Readings at noon on Sunday. EXCITE.

As far as the status of Valley of the Silk Sky is concerned: I’ve been busy thumbnailing the next several chapters (turns out chapters 8 and 9 had to swap places for timeline reasons), and hope to wrap that up before I head to NYC.

Then it will be on to penciling chapter 7. I do still have various other paying projects competing for my time, so I can’t say when exactly you’ll start seeing pages again. Pledgers to my Patreon are currently seeing my VotSS story from the Beyond Anthology, and are getting some behind-the-scenes deets as well as additional world-building nuggets.

So, like, if you want in on that, go drop a dollar (or more!) per month and it shall be yours. The more people pledge, the more I can focus on VotSS, and the less I have to take on other paying work in order to “eat” “food” and “pay” “bills.”

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky page 58 is up, and it’s got you covered for weird plants and weird architecture. Observe:

I’m experimenting with a new way of saving large image files, so this page SHOULD load much faster than previous pages. The question now is whether I go back and re-save and re-upload ALLLLLL previous 57 pages. Hah. Heh. Oh my.

But it ain’t gonna happen this week because WisCon!

Valley of the Silk Sky queer YA sci-fi webcomic

At long last, Valley of the Silk Sky has returned from hiatus, and we can now step gingerly into Part Two. Thus do I present unto you the start of chapter 6 on page 53:

One of the things that became clear to me at Emerald City Comic Con (which was awesome, by the way) is that I need to upgrade the version of VoSS I sell in person at shows. The minicomic for chapters 1&2 was put together when that’s all I had done, and it was fine for awhile, but now it doesn’t feel substantial enough.

So, to that end, I’ve put together a POD edition of the whole of Part One. It’s at the printers now, hopefully to be delivered in time for TCAF and WisCon next month. I hope it doesn’t look like trash! In order to get the job done as quickly as possible I had to skip getting a print proof. I’m a little nervous about this. Ha ha. Hopefully it’ll ALL BE FINE.

Anyway. So! KGNU interview! Melanie Gillman and I were recently invited to talk about queer comics for Denver/Boulder radio listeners, and that interview is now up on the web for everyone everywhere to enjoy. Lend it your earbones, won’t ya.

Last item: shows! The big ones up next are, as I mentioned previously, TCAF and WisCon. I have two local events before that:

Zines and Cereal, which is tomorrow (April 21) at the Europa Coffee house, 76 S Pennsylvania St, Denver, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. You will find me there, selling my comics and minis.

Also, I’ll be doing a Free Comic Book Day event on May 7 at Mutiny Comics here in Denver. More details on that as they solidify. Hopefully, fingers crossed, I’ll have the new Valley of the Silk Sky book available for that one.

Cheers,

Dylan

As the thumbnail image might suggest, there are some CURIOUS GOINGS ON with this week’s Valley of the Silk Sky page. Find out the deets here:

And yes, I will indeed be at the Alternative Press Expo this weekend, Oct. 3-4, in San Jose, CA. You can find me at the Northwest Press booth, 408/309.

I have TWO new comics out since last I appeared at APE, so definitely come check ’em out.

Speaking of new comics, word on the street is that hard copies of the Beyond Anthology are shipping out this week, so if you backed the Kickstarter you should be seeing your copy shortly. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, this means sales will open to the general public very, very soon!

Cheers,

Dylan

Small Press Expo 2015

Just a couple of weeks out from the Small Press Expo! I’ll be sharing a table with Rob Kirby – you can find us at H12 – and we’ll have a bounty of queer comics for ya.

I’ll also be moderating a panel called Queer and Here to Make Comics on Saturday the 19th at 6:00 PM in the White Oak Room. Here’s the description:

The indie comix scene is one of the best places to find stories by queer creators and comix for queer readers so let’s celebrate queer representation in comix with Anna Archie Bongiovanni (Autostraddle Saturday Morning Comics), Yao Xiao (Autostraddle Baopu Comics), Hazel Newlevant (If This Be Sin), and Kevin Jay Stanton (Burl and Fur) and discuss what it means to them. Moderated by Dylan Edwards.

So yeah! If you’re going to be at SPX this year, add that to your list of stuff to do!

Meanwhile, as I await edits on Other Comics Project, I’m working away on chapter 4 of Valley of the Silk Sky. Thirteen pages penciled, six pages inked, one page finished with a second 80% of the way done. Not making any specific announcements yet as to when chapter 4 will start running, since I don’t know how long Other Comics Project is going to take, but rest assured things are in process.

In the meantime, I’ll once again be running a series of world-building posts in between chapters, so head over to the Valley of the Silk Sky website if you wanna check those out.

And with that, I’m off to wrap up that 20% of page the second.

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run page 30 is up! This is the penultimate page of chapter 3, so really, things can’t get any worse, right? Read it here:

Tune in next week to find out if, in fact, things CAN get any worse.

Meanwhile, if you’re in or around Providence, RI, I’ll be vending at NecronomiCon Providence August 20-23.

I’ll mostly be selling Feeping Creatures stuff, but I will have a few comics on hand if that’s your desire. The vendor stuff is happening at the Convention Center, and you don’t need a convention badge to get in (though I understand there’s a small door fee if you don’t have a badge).

So! Come get some monster-themed stuff, won’t ya.

Cheers,

Dylan
