See if you can find it at one of these locations:

If you desire a refresher re: what the heck is going on here, please turn your attention to Chapter 7.

Something Tyv knows that perhaps you the reader might not (because it’s not SUPER important to the narrative, just a bit of background detail) is that Bantri’s big skill is disguise. Within Cobb’s crew, that largely amounted to pretending to be a traveling merchant (or, rather, several different traveling merchants, busting out a new costume as circumstances warranted).

Anyhow, the saga continues next week!

Check out the loot:

This chapter introduces some new characters, of whomst you shall glimpse one here.  Tyv is something of a famous burglar, well-known across the Valley for deploying a dramatic flair when xe steals stuff. Hence the fan club of Bad Kids intent on making off with xer wanted poster as a souvenir.

Regarding one of the other posters in the background, imploring people to halt the spread of sweetberry bush, I just wanna say this was written pre-pandemic and is mere thematic coincidence. I’d already figured the Valley would have issues with people complying (sweetberry bush spreads because the berries are tasty, and if you’re hungry, what are you gonna do), but actually stropping the spread for real would require coordinated governmental action and can’t be left to individuals to stop. Didn’t expect that to be quite so on the nose, but here we are.

ANYWAY. The chapter continues next week!

Ah yes indeed, page 97 is here, and it is aquiver with consternation. Read it, if you dare:

If you missed any previous updates, you can read all the pages posted so far in Chapter 11 at this very link. (There’s only one other page so far, so you don’t have a lot of homework to do.)

If you’re needing even more of a refresher than that, might I suggest hitting The Valley of the Silk Sky landing page to start at the beginning or to choose a chapter at will.

That’s it for now. See you next week!

queer YA science fiction webcomic Valley of the Silk Sky Daraz Harcos

Chapter 2 of Valley of the Silk Sky begins! These creatures are Daraz (species) Harcos (warrior/hunter caste). Harcos are non-reproducing members of the species. Read the new page here:

I’ve already got a couple of appendix posts up about the Daraz, if you’re in a world-building mood:

Infrared Vision

Social structure and grooming

In other news, the Queers & Comics Conference in NYC is fast approaching! May 7-8 you’ll be able to sit in on jillions of panels about QUEER COMICS.

I’ll be on three panels (Queer Memoir, and Trans/GQ Character Design on May 7, Queer Male Identity on May 8). Check out the full schedule for all the awesomeness.

In other other news, I have a page and a half left to ink on VoSS chapter 3, and then it’s on to painting. EXCITE.

Valley of the Silk Sky Razi and Oris

Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run page 6 is here, is now. Is dialogue! You want read:

Juuuust in case it’s not obvious from context, that gesture Razi is making in panel 3 is the Pocali equivalent of a middle finger.

Re: clothing: if you’re wearing bright colors you’re probably a merchant. If you’re wearing khaki, you’re probably a runner.

Over on the Valley of the Silk Sky website, I’ll be posting more world-building notes about clothing styles and rude gestures at the end of the chapter. None of that will be required reading for the story, but it’s there for folks who enjoy those sorts of details.

As far as progress on the rest of the story goes, all of the art for chapter 1 is completely finished, and I expect I’ll wrap up the pencils on chapter 2 today. This means the likelihood of having a minicomic of chapters 1 and 2 available at ECCC at the end of March is lookin’ good.

Beyond anthology Dylan Edwards teaser art

More Beyond teaser pencils. I’ve drawn up through page 10 of 16, so we’re gettin’ there. I might be having too much fun with the facial expressions. Maybe. And with these characters in general.

I have to ditch my original working title because it turns out that jerkbag H. G. Wells STOLE my title and used it for a story he published several decades before I was born. INCONSIDERATE. New working title is Valley in the Sky. So far it doesn’t appear to be in use by a famous dead author, but can we trust a man who seems to know an AWFUL LOT about time machines???

After I finish this story for Beyond, the plan is to go back and wrap up the art on PiQue: Old Ghosts. And THEN I’ll start working on some webcomics for VitS, such that, by the time Beyond comes out, there will already be some additional stories in that universe for people to read. I have the script mostly done for the next story, so I feel like this is a realistic goal. Yezz indeed.
