Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run – page 97 emerges

Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run – page 97 emerges published on

Ah yes indeed, page 97 is here, and it is aquiver with consternation. Read it, if you dare:

If you missed any previous updates, you can read all the pages posted so far in Chapter 11 at this very link. (There’s only one other page so far, so you don’t have a lot of homework to do.)

If you’re needing even more of a refresher than that, might I suggest hitting The Valley of the Silk Sky landing page to start at the beginning or to choose a chapter at will.

That’s it for now. See you next week!

Cheers,

Dylan

Valley of the Silk Sky - Hali

Yes indeed, page 96 is now ready to be placed inside your eyeballs. Read it in one of these fine locations:

If you can’t remember what the heck was going on with this story and would like to have a refresher, you can read all the pages so far (or choose a specific chapter) either here on Studio NDR or here on the Valley of the Silk Sky website.

If you prefer offline reading and would like a book collection, there are both digital and print volumes available, about which ye may learn more here.

For what it’s worth, I plan to update the VotSS website first with new pages, and then update here on Studio NDR when I get to it. So if you are desperate to read new pages at the earliest possible moment, bear that in mind. (And if you really, REALLY want to read at the earliest possible moment, might I remind you that $1+ Patrons get access to new pages three days earlier than the internet at large. Cough, ahem, just so you know.)

Okay? Okay! See you again next week for MORE COMICS.

The penultimate page of our parable may now be peeped! Peruse here on Studio NDR, or here on Patreon.

Tune in next week for the EXCITING CONCLUSION.

Speaking of exciting conclusions, the Kickstarter for The Nib’s Be Gay Do Comics anthology has wrapped! The project has funded quite handily, so soon you’ll be able to get your mitts on this fine book. As a reminder, I’ll have 8 pages of comics in there, alongside a great many other excellent cartoonists. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, I’m sure The Nib will have extra copies to sell retail, so keep an eye on their announcements.

Finally, I’ve finished coloring Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run chapter 11, and am in the final stages of cleaning up the scans and lettering the pages. So I’m on track to commence publishing the next installment on January 16, 2020. Brace yourselves!

Cheers,

Dylan

Trans Tokyo: A Trek to Two's Cabin

So many announcements to announce!

First, up, for the next few weeks I’ll be running my comic that originally appeared in We’re Still Here, an autobio comic about my visit to a queer/trans bar in Tokyo.

The first page of Trans Tokyo: A Trek to Two’s Cabin is here on Studio NDR and here on Patreon.

As per usual, Patrons get early access to comics, so new pages go up for Patrons on Monday, and are released to the general internet on Thursday.

I’ll be posting this on Tumblr eventually as well, but since it’s a short comic it makes more sense to do a single post there rather than individual pages in separate posts.

Be Gay, Do Comics

Meanwhile, The Nib is running a Kickstarter for this giant tome of queer comics, culled from the many pieces they’ve run online over the years. I have some work in this book, alongside a host of numerous other amazing cartoonists. Go forth and back the Kickstarter to snag a copy for yourself!

Valley of the Silk Sky progress report

Finally, I will actually have a new chapter of Valley of the Silk Sky: The Long Run to post soon. Chapter 11 is fully penciled and inked, and I’ve now moved on to coloring.

Current plan is to start posting pages around about the 5 (!) year anniversary of the comic, which is in mid-January.

So! Lots of comics coming your way. Stay tuned!

Cheers,

Dylan

STAPLE! this weekend, new comics sooooon

STAPLE! this weekend, new comics sooooon published on
Monster Journey trans masculine comics anthology

As you may have gleaned from the title, I’ll be at STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo in Austin, TX this weekend, October 12-13.

I will, of course, have a large assortment of queer & trans comics with me, including copies of the Monster Journey trans masculine comics anthology pictured here, in which I have an exclusive Valley of the Silk Sky short story. I’ll also have lots of art and merch of the Feeping Creatures variety.

So! If you’re in the ATX area this weekend, you should definitely come to this show.

I realize I haven’t posted much here lately, but I have indeed been working on new comics. I just wrapped up a new autobio story I hope to announce soon, and I have several pages of the next chapter of Valley of the Silk Sky penciled. Once I’m back from STAPLE!, my goal is to get that VotSS chapter done.

Anyhow, stay tuned, comics forthcoming …

Interview with The Comics Journal, Valley of the Silk Sky stuffs, and other whisperings

Valley of the Silk Sky: Medicine Run

I know I haven’t updated on here recently, but it’s not for lack of working on things!

First up, you can now read an interview/discussion about queer and trans spec fic with myself, Melanie Gillman, and Blue Delliquanti, published by The Comics Journal. If you want a nerdy deep-dive on LGBTQIA SFF YA (how’s that for some acronyms), click on through!

I’ve also been posting short story comics to the Valley of the Silk Sky website. You can now read “Medicine; Run” in its entirety, as well as a one-pager I did for an anthology a few years ago.

Why am I not posting these comics here as well, you ask? The simple answer is I’m already pretty overwhelmed, and trying to build and maintain infrastructure on multiple websites is more than I have bandwidth for right now. Besides, the whole point of having a separate VotSS website was to allow for more VotSS-related content, instead of having Studio NDR become even more unwieldy than it already is.

That said, I am working on a couple of new projects I’ll be talking about more here in the weeks and months to come. They are not yet at the Ready to Be Announced stage, but know that I’m keeping busy behind the scenes.

Until then!

Valley of the Silk Sky: Medicine Run

If you’re wondering why things have been quiet here these last few weeks, it’s because I’ve been focusing on posting updates over on the Valley of the Silk Sky website.

You can, for example, read several pages of “Medicine; Run” right now, as I work my way through the weekly serialization of this short story.

You can also buy the minicomic edition if you’re impatient, or if you prefer to read in print. Neat!

Will I ever post this short story to Studio NDR? I don’t know! Maybe. I just feel a bit overwhelmed with maintaining a billion websites and social media accounts, ha ha. For now, it lives in its own little corner of the web.

Meanwhile, SDCC

Monster Journey trans masculine comics anthology

Yes, I’ll be there! Once again you can find me in Small Press, where I will be sharing table L-06 with Stacked Deck Press (publisher of We’re Still Here, in which I have a short story, as well as several queer & trans-themed coloring books in which I have illustrations).

I’ll have a few copies of Monster Journey, the all-trans masc anthology from Pocket Bear Press in which I have an exclusive new Valley of the Silk Sky short story.

If you can’t make it to SDCC, you can snag Monster Journey online in either physical or e-book form.

I’m also working on some Feeping Creatures micro zines, featuring a bunch of artwork you probably haven’t seen before, so keep an eyeball out for those as well.

So yeah, been busy, even if I don’t always manage to post about it here!

Queers & Comics Conference is this weekend! And: new Valley of the Silk Sky short story!

Queers & Comics Conference is this weekend! And: new Valley of the Silk Sky short story! published on

I’m off to NYC this weekend for the Queers & Comics Conference!

Valley of the Silk Sky: Medicine Run

I’ll be on two panels:

Friday, May 17, 4:15 – 5:30 PM – Too Ace for This: Crafting Asexual and Aromantic Comics

Saturday, May 18, 2:15 – 3:30 PM – Falling Through the Cracks: Finding Space for Trans Masculine Creators

You can view the full panel schedule here. If you’re going to be in New York and you love queer comics, come check it out!

AND BUT ALSO: New Valley of the Silk Sky!

I’ve put together a minicomic of the remastered edition of “Medicine; Run,” which was originally published in the Beyond Anthology. It’s now in full color, with some edits to bring the story more in line with official VotSS canon. So if you wanna read it all in one go, snag yourself a copy of the mini.

I’m also publishing “Medicine; Run” as a weekly webcomic over on the Valley of the Silk Sky website, and on the VotSS Tumblr.

I haven’t decided yet whether or not I’ll run it on Studio NDR, but if I do it’ll probably be all at once after the whole thing has finished running. Mostly that’s because I’m already completely overwhelmed and have a very busy summer coming up, so I need to cut myself some slack somewhere.

But yes, things and stuff. Come to the conference, and read some VotSS comics!

Cheers,

Dylan

OR: Click ye here to see all pages posted thus far.

Meanwhile, DiNK is barreling towards us at an alarming clip. I’ll be at table 372 on the third floor for all your comic purchasing needs. (Or some of your needs; presumably you’ll buy comics from other people as well.)

I am also going to be on three (3!) panels:

  • Saturday, April 13 – 12:30 PM – PLZ RT <3: What Social Media Means for Cartoonists
  • Saturday, April 13 – 3:45 PM – Worldbuilding Across All Mediums of Narrative Story Telling
  • Sunday, April 14 – 4:30 PM – Navigating & Redressing Toxic Masculinity

I will ALSO have copies of the brand new Valley of the Silk Sky minicomic: the remastered edition of “Medicine; Run” (which originally appeared in the Beyond Anthology), now in color and with several dialogue changes to make the thing more canon.

I will ALSO ALSO have a limited number of copies of Monster Journey, the all trans masc anthology with a brang new Valley of the Silk Sky story what has never been seen before by human eyes.

Anyhow, yes. I’ll repeat a bunch of this next week as a reminder, but PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR DINK.

The thrilling autobio saga of Star Wars and my queer/asexual/trans identity continues!

Ace Pilot page 3 may be glimpsed here on Studio NDR and here on Patreon.

If you want to read all the pages that have been posted thus far, point your eyeballs this way.

But wait, you say. What’s this about a podcast?

A Podcast!

Yes indeed, I was recently interviewed by the FemiNerd Files podcast, wherein we discussed my comics and the making thereof. If you’ve always wanted to know how the heck I ended up writing a series about gay Republicans, or what fuels my imagination when I’m designing the world of Valley of the Silk Sky, give it a listen!
