NEW ZINE – TrannyToons Presents: Annotated Trans Comics of the Early ’00s

TL;DR: You can now snag a copy of my new zine from my Ko-Fi shop! Neat!

I first started making trans comics over 25 years ago, and while some have seen publication in anthologies here and there, I didn’t actually have any kind of collected print version of my very earliest works. I don’t even have them on my website anymore; I’d taken them down when I streamlined this site to be more of a portfolio and less of a giant dump of literally every comic I’d ever created. The art style of these early comics doesn’t reflect my current style, and over the years the topics I’d covered in them have drifted out of contemporary relevance.

But I’m a strong believer in archiving artifacts of marginalized communities. Jokes about binding from a quarter century ago might not be relevant to a young trans person’s experience today, but it might well be of historical interest to a young trans person who wants to know more about what trans folks of previous generations had navigated.

So I decided to put together a zine of those old comics, but with annotations to offer more context for those now-outdated topics. Explanations of deprecated terminology, cultural practices that have fallen by the wayside, and why I was mad at Norah Vincent in 2001.

You can now obtain a copy of this zine for your very own self! It’s available in my Ko-Fi shop, and, of course, at any show I’m tabling at. Hooray!

Cheers,

Dylan

New stuff in the works!

New stuff in the works! published on

I have absolutely fallen off the wagon as far as updating my website goes, but I am indeed working on new things and have slowly begun sharing them on my Patreon. I’ll add the new Taxonomically Unbound comics here as well just as soon as I remember how to do that (it’s complicated here under the hood).

I’ve also been working on a new zine, a collection of my earliest trans comics, with annotations to note the ways trans culture has shifted and changed in the quarter century since I came out. This zine will debut at Pride in Panels, a queer comics convention with free admission being held at the San Francisco Public Library’s main branch on February 15, 2026. Here, for your edification, is the cover of the new book (whose contents I am still refining down to the last typo):

ANYWAY. Sorry about the radio silence. 2025 was kind of a lot, as you may perhaps be aware if you know anything of what has been going on in America, which probably you do. It’s been hard to focus on things like “remember to update website.”

But I’m very much looking forward to the Pride in Panels show, and will try to remember to add other shows to my events calendar as they get confirmed!

Cheers,

Dylan

Out Front Magazine - September 2023 issue - Digital Queerness

The September issue of OUT FRONT Magazine is all about digital queerness! My comic takes a look at how online spaces give us access to information about queer and trans identities, info that was often very difficult to come by in the pre-internet world.

Read the whole comic on the OFM website, or pick up a print copy at one of their drop locations! You’ll find me on page 6.

Dylan

OUT FRONT Magazine – June 2023 Pride issue

OUT FRONT Magazine – June 2023 Pride issue published on

My comic for this month’s edition of OFM takes a look at some of my international encounters with trans people. One thing I’ve definitely found to be the case, especially in our modern internet-enabled era, is that there’s a lot of solidarity amongst trans folks across the globe, even to the point of transcending (pun intended) language barriers.

You can find the comic on page 44 of the online mag!

Cheers,

Dylan

We're Still Here trans comics anthology

My current project is my comic for the all-trans We’re Still Here anthology, and you can back the Kickstarter for it even now!

This 300+ page tome is, believe it or not, the first (that we know of) comics anthology dedicated exclusively to trans comics and trans creators. And there are a ton of great folks included: Melanie Gillman, Sophie LaBelle, Sybil Lamb, Ajuan Mance, Annie Mok, L Nichols, Ronnie Richie, Bishakh Som, Scout Tran-Caffee, and tons more.

Added bonus: both of the editors (Jeanne Thornton and Tara Avery) are trans, and the publisher, Stacked Deck Press, is trans-owned and operated. So every penny goes to support trans folks!

I’m doing an autobio piece about my trip last fall to a Japanese trans guy bar. Folks who pledge a dollar or more a month to my Patreon are being treated to work-in-progress images.

So if you wanna peep some process pix, put in a pledge!

And don’t forget to back the Kickstarter and help make this book a reality!

Cheers,

Dylan

No Straight Lines is here!

With this contributor copy I shall rule the world

I just got my contributor copy in the mail, and as you can see I am somewhat enthused by this turn of events.

This is, in case you don’t know, a giant hardcover tome, published by Fantagraphics, that surveys the last 40 years of queer comics and presents unto us a selection thereof. I’m quite excited to have three of my cartoons included (one Outfield, two Trannytoons).

The book includes work by a number of utterly delightful comic peeps. You can see the full roster, read some excerpts, and maybe buy? said book from the Fantagraphics website. Hopefully your local bookstore is awesome enough to have No Straight Lines in stock, but if not, well, the internets are here to help you out.
